Manchester Airport (MAN) in the UK is set to open its Terminal 2 extension for passengers later this week on 14 July 2021.

Originally, the terminal was scheduled to open last summer, but the plan was postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and resultant travel curbs.

The new terminal will feature shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, as well as a series of popular chains such as Pret-a-Manger, Costa Coffee, KFC, The Amber Alehouse and The Bridgewater Exchange by Joseph Holt.

Manchester Airport said that more stores and venues will be opened once more passengers start using the terminal. Additionally, the terminal will feature two airport-operated lounges.

Besides, the terminal will be equipped with Covid-19 safety measures, the airport stated.

A new 81m² digital screen has also been installed in the new terminal for providing interactive content and information to passengers.

The newly extended terminal is part of Manchester Airport Group’s (MAG’s) $1.38bn (£1bn) Manchester Airport Transformation Programme (MAN-TP), which was announced in 2015.

Manchester Airport managing director Karen Smart said: “It is a proud milestone for our airport as we begin to emerge from the restrictions brought about by the Covid-19 crisis, and an important moment in our 83-year history.

“This project was always about offering the modern airport experience that families and businesses across the North deserve as they travel through their international gateway to the world, and our new terminal certainly delivers on that goal.”
