British airport operator Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has awarded a contract to Rohde & Schwarz to deliver its latest generation of R&S QPS201 security scanners.

MAG plans to deploy the security scanners at its airports located in Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands to improve passenger experience and strengthen security operations.

Manchester Airports Group Transformation Programme Terminal Design and Operations lead David Quayle said: “At MAG, our emphasis is on providing a positive experience for all passengers that visit our airports.

“We hope more airports can benefit from the QPS201 to help them further increase the flow of passengers passing through their security channels.”

“With this in mind, we selected the R&S QPS201 for its open architecture design and scanning efficiency.”

Under the five-year framework agreement, Rohde & Schwarz will initially supply six scanners to London Stansted Airport from April.

Subsequently, MAG will deploy up to 100 R&S QPS201 security scanners across the three airports over the next five years.

Rohde & Schwarz Europe vice-president Frank Mackel stated: “The new scanners aim to put passengers at ease, featuring a more relaxed pose position, a more open design and a faster scan time.

“The new scanners also benefit security staff, giving them greater visual access to passengers. With this package of benefits, we hope more airports can benefit from the QPS201 to help them further increase the flow of passengers passing through their security channels.”

In March, MAG teamed up with IT firm SITA to deploy further passenger self-service kiosks across the group’s three main airports.

MAG has also selected SITA to upgrade Manchester Airport’s baggage reconciliation systems.
