Government-owned entity Kitco has won a contract for a new Rs6bn ($87.13m) integrated terminal at Imphal International Airport in the Indian state of Manipur.

The project management consultancy (PMC) contract was awarded by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and will see the airport developed as an intra-regional hub.

The construction of the new terminal building, along with ancillary facilities, will enable the airport to support the landing of ‘C’ type airplanes such as A-320 and A-321 in all weather conditions.

Imphal Airport will be able to provide round-the-clock operations once the new facility is opened.

Kitco won the contract through competitive bidding.

“They were completed on schedule and within the cost limits set by Airport Economic Regulatory Authority of India.”

The contractor intends to use the concept-to-commissioning approach for the construction of the new integrated terminal building to conform to GRIHA 4 Star Rating.

Kitco will construct control-cum-technical block, apron link and taxiway, new control tower, two taxiways, parking bays for A-321, B-737-800 and Q 400 type of airplanes, car park, along with perimeter roads.

The company has already made considerable progress in the primary work, including site surveys, concept presentation, soil analysis, as well as consultations with the stakeholders concerned.

Kitco managing director Cyriac Davies told The Hindu: “Aviation division of Kitco had proved its competence in undertaking Cochin International and Kannur International Airport terminals.

“They were completed on schedule and within the cost limits set by Airport Economic Regulatory Authority of India. This has helped us in getting a winning edge in competitive bidding for AAI projects.”

The construction of the new terminal is scheduled to be completed in 54 months. This is the second PMC contract that Kitco has been awarded by the AAI after the Mangalore Airport expansion project.
