Pursuant to the terms of the contract, Rohde & Schwarz will supply supporting equipment, software, project management and training, as well as after-sales services for a period of 15 years.

CAAS Air Navigation Services deputy director-general Soh Poh Theen said: “This technology will enhance communications between our controllers and pilots, thus improving operational safety.

“Our solution will support the operational efficiency and resource management along with highest safety standards.”

“With air traffic projected to grow exponentially in the region, it is imperative for CAAS to invest in critical ATC infrastructure ahead of time.”

Rohde and Schwarz will install more than 240 R&S Series 4200 VHF/UHF radios at Changi, including at the new radio stations to be built at Changi East.

These radios will offer voice connections between pilots and air traffic controllers.

Featuring a new technology known as Detection of Simultaneous Transmissions (DSiT), the radios will enable CAAS to adopt DSiT for the detection and notification of simultaneous radio calls to air traffic controllers who can communicate with two counterparts simultaneously.

Rohde & Schwarz Market Segment ATC vice-president Constantin von Reden said: “We are proud to partner with CAAS for the future-proof installation of additional ATC communications capacities at Changi Airport.

“As this major international transportation hub for Asia keeps developing, our solution will support the operational efficiency and resource management along with highest safety standards.”

Recently, Rohde & Schwarz signed an MoU with the Central American aviation safety service provider COCESNA to equip airports with its communications technology.
