Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) has selected Gensler and HDR to design a landside terminal as part of the $1.1bn Pittsburgh Airport modernisation programme in the US.

Gensler and HDR have signed a joint venture (JV) agreement to design and deliver the terminal Pittsburgh Airport modernisation programme.

The JV will work in cooperation with Luis Vidal + Architects of Spain to consolidate check-in, ticketing, security, and baggage operations into a single facility. HDR will oversee the design’s engineering implementation.

Under the $15m design contract, the team is expected to submit a preliminary design by early next year.

ACAA CEO Christina Cassotis said: “We are confident that we have assembled a world-class team with the vision, knowledge and experience necessary to work with all of our partners in building Pittsburgh’s airport: an airport that will transform the travel experience now and into the future and continue advancing our region.

“Under the $15m design contract, the team is expected to submit a preliminary design by early next year.”

“Our selection team has carefully researched best airport design and modernisation practices and worked to review qualifications of the firms, their proposals and references.”
