Royal Schiphol Group has awarded a contract to the joint venture of Ballast Nedam and TAV Construction to build a new pier at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands.
The scope of the contract includes construction of gatehouses and the surrounding aircraft stands.

Royal Schiphol Group COO Birgit Otto said: “We are very satisfied with the combination between the Dutch Ballast Nedam and the Turkish company TAV Construction, which is specialised in aviation.
“With the joint knowledge of these companies, we are able to provide airlines and passengers additional capacity and modern facilities at Schiphol in the most efficient way.
“The project must be realised without compromising the safety or capacity at our airport.”
Encompassing an area of 55,000m² the new pier will feature five gates for narrow-body aircraft on the north side and three gates to accommodate wide-body aircraft on the south side.

By GlobalDataThe south-side gates will be large enough to house six narrow-body aircraft.
Scheduled to open at the end of next year, the pier will have security filters, border control, shops and catering. It will also be equipped with 5,000m² solar panels and rainwater conservation facilities for use in the toilets.
The pier will comprise three floors to segregate passengers according to border and security status and it can be used by multiple air operators and destinations.
Royal Schiphol Group also plans to add two wide-body gates at the pier in future. The addition is not part of the work package.
