The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has started to implement enhanced carry-on baggage security screening procedures at airports in North Dakota.
Tested at ten locations across the country, the new screening procedures require passengers to place all electronic equipment larger than a smartphone in separate bins for X-ray screening during the security check.

The implementation is expected to be completed by early next year.
TSA North Dakota federal security director David Durgan said: “From time to time, travellers may notice changes in TSA’s screening procedures.
“This is part of our efforts to stay ahead of evolving threats to the transportation system.
“TSA officers will be available in front of the checkpoint X-ray machines to guide passengers through any changes in the screening process and give direction on what items will need to be removed from carry-ons and placed in a bin for X-ray screening.”

Placing electronics, liquids, gels and aerosols (of less than 3.4oz) in a separate bin will ensure a clearer view during X-ray scanning and enable officers to identify potential threat items in carry-on bags.
TSA has advised that passengers avoid overfilling their bags and organise all items to ensure faster and easier access for officers at the checkpoint.
The new security measures are not applicable for the passengers screened through the PreCheck lane.
