The new facility has been equipped with security surveillance systems and reportedly has a capacity to handle 500 passengers at any given time, increasing the airport’s total passenger handling capacity to 300,000 passengers a year.

The new terminal’s design separates arriving and departing passengers, facilitating future international operations when the runway is extended to serve larger aircrafts.

In addition, the KAA is planning to further expand Malindi Airport with a multi-million dollar investment.

The first phase of the plan is expected to affect 120 families as the authority needs to acquire 25ha in the southern side of the airport, near Kwachocha area, for the construction of a new car park.
