Abu Dhabi International Airport served approximately 1.63 million passengers in May, marking an increase of 27.4% when compared with the same month last year.

The growth was driven by the airport’s new code-share partnerships with Etihad and various airlines.

The airport registered 12,931 aircraft movements during May, recording a growth of 15.8% compared with 11,162 during May 2013.

Air cargo volume at Abu Dhabi Airport also rose 24.5% to 66,944t, compared with 53,788t handled during the previous year.

Manila topped the list of the routes with the highest passenger volumes with a year-on-year rise of 21%, followed by Doha, Bangkok, London and Mumbai.

Abu Dhabi Airports COO Ahmad Al Haddabi said that the passenger numbers have continued to increase over the past few years, making the airport one of the fastest growing aviation hubs in the world.
