Dubai International Airport has unveiled a 44.2ft-tall model of the Burj Khalifa that is made completely out of chocolate as part of the 43rd UAE National Day celebrations at Dubai Airports.

The tower has been created by master chocolatier Andrew Farrugia, an artist from Malta, who specialises in food art and has worked in the pastry and baking industry for the past 32 years.

It took Farrugia and his team around 1,050 hours to complete the tower. Close to 4,200kg of high-quality Belgian chocolate was used in the sculpture.

The tower is located at Concourse A in Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport and will be on display for the next two weeks.

"We thought it was a great idea to celebrate the National Day with a record-breaking feat that travellers passing through Dubai International would be able to appreciate."

Vice-president of communications and business development Anita Mehra said: "Dubai is known all over the world for superlatives, the city is home to some of the world’s tallest buildings apart from Burj Khalifa, one of the world’s top two busiest international airports, one of the world’s largest seaports, largest shopping malls and a number of other world firsts.

Apart from the Burj Khalifa sculptor, Farrugia had last year created a 34m-long steam train sculpture in Brussels, Belgian, which also held a Guinness World Record for the longest chocolate sculpture.
