US Representative Evan Jenkins has announced that the Department of Transportation (DoT) has awarded two grants for airports in West Virginia and Washington, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure.
The Greenbrier County Airport Authority in West Virginia has received more than $2.5m for improvements to the Greenbrier Valley Airport.

The grant will be used to build a taxiway and rehabilitate the apron.
Jenkins said: "This money represents a critical investment in our community, our transportation system, and the Greenbrier Valley Airport. These funds will help the airport improve its runway and infrastructure, which will make the airport more efficient.
"Our transportation infrastructure is the key to growing jobs and attracting tourism to our region, and I am working every day to secure the funding needed to improve our economy and enhance our quality of life."
The latest funding follows a $1m Federal grant in July 2012 to Greenbrier Authority to improve and expand its terminal building and acquire equipment to facilitate air carrier operations during inclement weather.

By GlobalDataThe non-primary commercial service airport has been included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011-2015, based on enplanements ranging between 2,500 and 10,000 annually.
According to Federal Aviation Administration, the airport serviced 4,651 passengers in 2009 and 12,293 in 2010.
In a separate development, Mason County received a grant of nearly $1m, which will be used to rehabilitate the Mason County Airport’s apron, improve its infrastructure and to make the airport more efficient.
