Indra has received a €6m contract from Swiss air navigation services provider (ANSP) Skyguide to install primary S band surveillance radars at Switzerland’s Geneva and Zurich international airports.

Under the terms of the deal, Indra will deploy its surveillance systems to support approach and landing manoeuvers.

The new surveillance radars will also enhance safety, ensuring high passenger capacity and seamless traffic flow at the airports.

Indra will replace existing airport equipment with the radars, which feature the latest developments to help eliminate interference caused by wind energy turbines.

The new technology also enhance identification of adverse climatological conditions.

In a bid to bag the current contract, Indra successfully demonstrated the high quality and effective performance levels of its systems.

Since early 2000, Indra has been working in collaboration with Skyguide to implement its NOVA advanced surface movement guidance and control systems (A-SMGCS) in Geneva and Zurich international airports.

The company has recently deployed a second surface movement radar in Geneva, while the major runway in Zurich is equipped with Indra’s distance measuring equipment (DME) system.

An additional total of 12 NORMARC instrument landing systems (ILS) have been installed at seven airports across Switzerland.

The company has so far deployed more than 200 primary and secondary radars worldwide.
