IAG said that the V2500 SelectOne engine has been selected due to its key technologies such as 3D aerodynamics, materials and cooling technology.

Vueling Airlines CEO Alex Cruz said: "These engines provide environmental benefits, which enable us to reduce the carbon emissions of our fleet, leading to further unit cost reductions."

The V2500 SelectOne engine entered service in October 2008. It features wide chord fan, full-length nacelle and HPC coatings.

The engine is said to offer lowest fuel burn, lowest total emissions and the lowest noise, in addition to benefits such as time-on-wing improvement and additional EGT margin.

IAE is an aero engine consortium with shareholders, including Pratt & Whitney, Pratt & Whitney Aero Engines International, Japanese Aero Engines and MTU Aero Engines.

The company has to date delivered more than 6,000 V2500 engines to date to around 200 customers worldwide.
