UK’s Heathrow Airport has contracted seven companies to design plans for its sustainable expansion.

The airport's integrated design team (IDT) will include Amec Foster Wheeler, Arup, Atkins, Grimshaw, Mott MacDonald, Jacobs and Quod.
The appointment of these companies followed competitive selection processes and a commercial review. Each of the teams has been awarded contracts for four years.
Heathrow design head Barry Weekes said: “With their institutional knowledge of Heathrow, and proven record in building complex infrastructure projects, the members of the integrated design team will allow us to hit the ground running to deliver Heathrow expansion.

Amec Foster Wheeler has been selected to assist Heathrow with its sustainability strategies and environmental impact assessment, while Arup will continue to lead the airport’s passenger experience and baggage improvement programmes.
Heathrow selected Atkins as it previously delivered the airport’s IT and asset replacement programmes, while Grimshaw has earned the role of concept architect within the IDT following its successful delivery of Terminal 2B.
Jacobs will provide airport planning and engineering services, building on the work it has already provided with Heathrow.
Mott MacDonald will develop airport masterplans, while Quod will serve as a planning consultant with knowledge on making successful DCO applications.
Arup, CH2M, MACE and Turner & Townsend will all work alongside Heathrow Airport to deliver expansion.
