ANA has partnered with several other entities, such as the municipalities and the Portuguese Air Force, to conduct additional studies to facilitate military and civilian use of the air base.

"The expansion plan seeks to enhance the airport's competitiveness as an international hub."

The studies will analyse environmental impacts and the accessibility of the air base to ensure infrastructure is correctly integrated.

Last year, Portuguese airports recorded their highest ever traffic growth with a 14.2% rise in passenger numbers.
