Smiths Detection has received contracts from Malaysian Airports Holdings to provide advanced X-ray screening systems and explosives trace detectors to two major airports in Malaysia.
Under the contract, the company will install HI-SCAN detectors and IONSCAN table-top devices at Penang International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport Low Cost Carrier Terminal 2 (KLIA2).
The company’s HI-SCAN detectors are capable of detecting explosives automatically and IONSCAN table-top devices can identify both explosives and narcotics.
Approved according to EU regulation 1448/2006, HI-SCAN 10080 EDtS are capable of screening up to 1,800 bags per hour and automatically detect explosives.
EDtS offers the enhanced approach of merging both physical signatures ‘Zeffective’ (atomic number) and density which will allow it to deliver improved detection rate.
Smith’s HI-SCAN 100100t-2is is a dual-view X-ray system which will be used for oversized baggage inspection and will reduce the rate of bags being rejected, reducing the need for a re-inspection at a later stage.
The company’s IONSCAN 500DT is a table-top device which will simultaneously detect explosives and narcotics on baggage and expedite passenger and baggage screening.
This dual detector system features a colour touch-screen display, built-in printer and 40GB internal hard drive and also comprises PC functionality, enhanced memory and networking capabilities.
