Lufthansa’s MRO service subsidiary Lufthansa Technik has signed a five-year contract with US carrier Frontier Airlines to provide maintenance for its Airbus A320 fleet.
The physical maintenance will take place at Lufthansa Technik’s Puerto Rico facility, but the contract also covers digital aircraft diagnostics.
At least 300 “maintenance events” are planned for the duration of the deal, according to the MRO provider.
The deal came after an initial one-year agreement, also in Puerto Rico, the German company’s Americas base. 400 staff work at the facility at Rafael Hernández Airport in Aguadilla, specialising in A320 MRO.
“Based on the results of our initial partnership with Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico, we are pleased to expand the relationship with this multi-year aircraft maintenance services agreement,” said Jeffrey Moore, vice president of technical operations at Frontier Airlines.
“Their base maintenance, components support and AVIATAR platform will help support our focus on high quality, efficient maintenance programs,” he added.
Joerg Speri, CEO of Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico, explained: “We are looking to support all aspects of base maintenance for Frontier Airlines and our other customers through our continuous commitment to excellence, quality, and safety in every project.
“To achieve this, we plan to integrate additional contracted services for Frontier Airlines to the upcoming maintenance activities, such as component support, and introduce new digital solutions.”
