Kansas City International Airport in the US has selected defence, security, and IT solutions provider VMD Corp as its new airport security screening services partner.

VMD also carries out similar work at Atlantic City, New Jersey, Rochester, New York, Portsmouth and New Hampshire airports.

The company will aid MCI and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for the screening of over 12 million passengers and 100 million tonnes of cargo.

VMD Homeland Defense executive vice-president Nydia Delgado-Garcia said: “We’re thrilled to bring MCI into the fold. With our other airport customers, we have consistently demonstrated our capabilities and our effectiveness, and have earned their trust and confidence. We look forward to doing the same thing in Kansas City. We’re eager to get started.”

The five-year task order is named ‘Airport Security Screening Services and Required Deliverables for Kansas City International Airport (MCI), Kansas City, Missouri’.

It was awarded in January this year under the TSA Screening Partnership Program (SPP).

The company commenced its work on 1 May and plans to transition to complete operational control in September.

Over 350 employees will aid in the screening of passengers and baggage that pass through the airport.
