Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Carolina, Puerto Rico, has been equipped with CLEAR’s expedited security screening lanes.

Operated by Aerostar Airport Holdings, SJU has become the first airport outside the continental US to incorporate these lanes.

The company’s dedicated lanes are used for verifying the members’ identity with their eyes or fingers.

This replaces the need to show the wallet and driver’s licence.

A CLEAR Ambassador will accompany members through the dedicated lane and to US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) physical security after completing the verification process.

This new service reduces the amount of time spent waiting in line at the security checkpoint of the airport.

CLEAR serves 46 airports and has more than 14 million members.

Commenting on the development, CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker said: “CLEAR is excited to bring our secure identity technology to Puerto Rico, create good-paying local jobs and invest in the local economy.

“Aerostar has been a great partner, and we’re pleased to work together to create a more predictable, less stressful airport experience for people travelling through SJU.”

The new launch is expected to create 49 jobs at the airport and also support nearly $2.5m in local economic activity.

Additionally, the company intends to make a donation to Hurricane Fiona relief on behalf of each member enrolled and verified at SJU during this month.

In August, CLEAR launched its expedited security screening lanes at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) in Wisconsin, US.
