When Bangalore International Airport opened on 24th of May with the first flight taking off to Singapore, UFIS Airport Solutions (UFIS-AS) was there with its Universal Flight Information System (UFIS), providing operational IT support. In partnership with Siemens Information Systems Limited (SISL) India, UFIS-AS has successfully implemented its Airport Operational Database, Flight Information Processing System, Flight Information Display System, and Apron Management System together with Systems Integration and Interfaces to standard external systems such as the ATC and SITA Telex.

The new Bangalore International Airport is the largest green-field, private sector-owned and operated airport in India. Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) is the owner and operator of this new airport. With its solutions and services UFIS-AS is supporting BIAL’s vision to develop a world-class airport that will serve as a gateway to the east and west, create a hub of activity for the Bangalore community and set new standards for the aviation industry in India.

Located at Devanahalli, approximately 40 kilometers from Bangalore, the airport has opened with a capacity for 11 million passengers per year and is able to handle 27 aircrafts per hour. There are 40 aircraft stands, 35 check-in counters and seven passenger gates to facilitate multiple flights around the same time. Five air bridges (in phase 1) will enable direct access to aircraft from the terminal.

“We are proud that this is the second green-field airport in India powered by UFIS after Radjiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad,” said Holger Mattig, managing director of UFIS Airport Solutions, Singapore and head of world-wide sales within the UFIS-AS group. Hyderabad’s Radjiv Gandhi International Airport began operations in March using UFIS. “Both airports have the potential to become important international hubs, and we are glad to support this development through our solutions.”

“UFIS Airport Solutions continues to strengthen its position in India,” said Anders Sagadin, UFIS-AS’s President and CEO. “We are working in close cooperation with Siemens Information Systems Limited (SISL) India on the Indian market and this partnership has proven to be very successful. We look forward to further supporting the Indian airport business and economy by providing our state-of-the art IT solutions and services.”
