As of September 2020, Materna IPS GmbH operates internationally as autonomous subsidiary within the Materna Group.

After more than 30 successful years on the international market for automated passenger handling at airports, on 1 September 2020, the Materna Group will be transferring its aviation brand Intelligent Passenger Solutions (IPS) to form a new autonomous limited company. As a 100% subsidiary of Materna Information & Communications SE, Materna IPS GmbH will then progress its aviation business in its own right. This sees the leading self bag drop provider focusing even more clearly on the growth markets in passenger handling.

As of 1 September, Materna IPS will be operating as an autonomous subsidiary of the Materna Group. Their portfolio continues to cover all their previous hardware and software solutions as well as their services for airports and airlines. Materna IPS will continue its close connections with the parent company Materna SE but will be targeting its structures and processes even more on the international market and its global customer business.

This exclusive focus on the aviation sector, the deployment of their own resources and faster processes will secure Materna IPS further competitive advantages for the future. The spin-off will enable Materna IPS to develop its own specific strengths even better and to be even more agile in its implementation of international customer projects. In addition to their specialist expertise in product development, the new independence of the global customer-oriented sales and service team will ensure that individual customer requirements can be fulfilled even better. The aim is to consolidate and continue to expand on the successes so far achieved in the field of self-service, which is the fastest-growing segment within the passenger handling business at airports and airlines. With its renowned self-service solutions, Materna IPS is already well-positioned in the most important growth markets, and with the founding of this company, it is now setting the scene for future growth.

Martin Wibbe, CEO and Chairman of the Board at Materna Information & Communications SE: “Materna IPS is enjoying continuous growth and already has more than 800 installations to its name around the world, including at important airports such as Toronto Pearson in Canada and Bangalore Airport in India. Their latest projects include equipping the Tokyo Haneda Airport in Japan and one of the largest self bag drop installations at Denver Airport in the USA. Materna IPS is well prepared for its transformation into an independent company. The forecasts for the coming years in this market segment are very promising, in spite of the Corona pandemic.”

“The independence of our company will smooth the way for own successful development and for long term success in the aviation industry,” says Dr Georg Oschmann, Managing Director of Materna IPS GmbH. “As a 100% subsidiary of Materna Information & Communications SE we will continue to enjoy the financial stability which our customers can rely on. At the same time, we will be able to concentrate optimally on our growth markets in North America, India and Japan, and on growing project volumes in Europe and on the implementation of further large projects, while reacting flexibly to market changes. I am very much looking forward to helping to shape the future of modern passenger handling together with my longstanding experienced team, our customers and partners.”
