On the 14 September 2013 a new temporary international arrivals terminal for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi was opened and put into operation successfully. Vanderlande Industries was instrumental in getting the baggage system up and running again in a record time.

An unfortunate massive fire in Nairobi engulfed the existing arrivals hall at Kenya’s main international airport on the 7 August. Meanwhile a lot has been done to restore the airports capacity as quickly as possible.

Research has shown that the international arrivals terminal, which was burnt, will have to be demolished as the structure is too weak, so alternative interim solutions have been developed to minimize interruption of the inbound passengers’ traffic. A new parking garage was converted to a temporary international arrivals hall in a record time of two weeks.

Vanderlande Industries had the privilege to deliver the temporary reclaim system, including three new arrivals carousels, which Vanderlande succeeded to deliver, install and commission in two weeks from contract award to operational use, an achievement greatly appreciated by the Kenyan Airports Authorities.
