LBA, Yorkshire’s largest airport, is one of the first airports in Europe to upgrade its radio system to a push-to-talk over cellular platform. The airport made the switch as part of its ongoing investment programme in people and technology.

“We are investing heavily in people and technology to make sure that passengers have the best possible experience when travelling through LBA,” said LBA COO Damian Ives.

“Mobile Tornado’s world-leading technologies will help us to manage operations and achieve our ambitions. As a regional airport, we plan our development with the local economy, environment, and stakeholders in mind and we are delighted to be working with Mobile Tornado, a local company with world-leading technology.

The contract was won by Storm, a reseller of Mobile Tornado technologies and is initially for 200 user licences.

“This agreement with one of the UK’s busiest regional airports represents another big vote of confidence in our push-to-talk over cellular platform as an improved radio system for critical communications,” said Luke Wilkinson, global head of sales at Mobile Tornado.

“As a Yorkshire company with a growing customer base in the UK and Europe, we are thrilled to be working with LBA and see airports as an important growth market.”

Last year, LBA abandoned its plans to build a new terminal at the airport due to delays and calls for holding a public inquiry.
