Southern Cross Electrical Engineering’s (SCEE Group) subsidiary Heyday has secured a contract from Multiplex Constructions to design and provide electrical and communications services for the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (SWZ) in Australia.
Responsible for the construction of the airport’s main airport terminal, apron and facilities, Multiplex has awarded this contract worth more than $100m.

Under the contract, Heyday will design and build all electrical and communications works within the area of the terminal.
These will cover the terminal building, connections to the Metro rail station, bus station, plaza, car parks, roads, footpaths, along with external ancillary buildings and services.
The company will establish the high voltage infrastructure at the terminal, electrical infrastructure within the terminal and install lighting, power monitoring and control systems, cabling, as well as the communications network infrastructure.
SCEE Group managing director Graeme Dunn said: “I am delighted that Heyday has been awarded this contract for what will be one of the most advanced passenger terminals in the world and which is testament to Heyday’s reputation in the construction industry in New South Wales. This is also the largest initial award by contract value in the SCEE Group’s history.

The construction of the airport’s terminal, which will include sustainable solutions, is expected to commence later this year.
With a capacity to accommodate nearly ten million passengers a year, Western Sydney International Airport is projected to start operations in 2026.
The Australian Government will offer nearly $3.87bn (A$5.3bn) for the execution of this project.
In September, CPB Contractors and Acciona joint venture (JV) won a contract for airside civil and pavement works, including taxiways and runway, at Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport.
