Civil aviation joint secretary Usha Padhee said that due to around 30% growth in footfall of travellers, the terminal capacity will be increased at the airport.

In order to construct the new terminal, the required land is available in the existing airport complex.

Currently, Bhubaneswar Airport operates two terminals, including Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is used for domestic flights and for providing additional support to Terminal 2.

Terminal 2 opened in 2013, and manages international and domestic flights. It features aerobridges, elevators, automatic stairs, 16 check-in desks and a spa, among other facilities.
