The deployment of the latest generation radar follows a contract awarded to Saab by the government-owned airport operator Swedavia in 2016 for the replacement of aging Surface Movement Radars.

Saab Air Traffic Management business unit head Mike Gerry said: “The combination of our experienced teams and Saab’s proven SMR product design allowed us to deliver not one but three low-risk installations in near record time.

“This short system downtime is crucial to Swedavia and all of our customers around the world.”

The installation was carried out by Saab’s surface movement radar (SMR) team with installation support from local contractor Eltel.

“With this, Swedavia has now secured safe operation for many years to come.”

After installation of all three radars, the Saab team wrapped up site acceptance testing for the SMR and integration with the existing Saab Advanced-Surface Movement Guidance & Control System (A-SMGCS).
