Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, has unveiled plans to construct a new service centre at Palm Beach International Airport in the US.

According to the plan a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility covering an area of 115,000ft² will be constructed on the airport’s west side.

The new facility will also feature offices, back shops and a hangar that’s almost 75,000ft². The new hub will replace the smaller facility, which is currently operated by the company on the south side of the airport.

The expansion is likely to create about 50 jobs.

Gulfstream stated that the new facility will be located close to an all-new storage hangar, customer offices and fuel farm managed by sister company Jet Aviation.

“Our West Palm Beach site plays a major role in our service organisation, which has experienced sizable growth over the last several years.”

Gulfstream and Jet Aviation will both spend more than $50m in the project.

Construction work on the project is slated to start this year, with scheduled opening expected by the first quarter of 2020.

Gulfstream Aerospace Customer Support president Derek Zimmerman said: “Our West Palm Beach site plays a major role in our service organisation, which has experienced sizable growth over the last several years.

“Like other expansions we’ve announced this year in Savannah; Appleton, Wisconsin; and Farnborough, England; and last year in Van Nuys, California, this expansion in West Palm Beach will keep our service network well-positioned to accommodate the growing demand for aircraft maintenance and refurbishment.”

Gulfstream West Palm Beach hub, which recorded more than 975 aircraft visits last year, offers services such as structural modifications and repairs, major inspections, and avionics installations and system upgrades.
