McDermott has reached a master services agreement with Willis Sustainable Fuels (WSF) for the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facilities in the UK.

McDermott will undertake early engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) related services for the facilities with plans to negotiate the EPC scope in 2025.

The initial phase includes early engineering for a SAF facility in Teesside, aiming to produce 50,000 litres per day.

The proposed SAF facility will utilise either biogas-to-liquid or power-to-liquid technology for next-generation fuel production, contingent on the as yet undetermined source material.

This project has received backing from the UK Government’s Advanced Fuels Fund.

McDermott will collaborate with Bilfinger UK to leverage in-house expertise, self-perform delivery, and utilise the UK supply chain to its full potential.

McDermott’s London office will spearhead the project, with additional support from its Gurugram, India office, and Bilfinger’s UK office in Warrington.

McDermott low carbon solutions business senior vice president Rob Shaul said: “This agreement is testament to McDermott’s expertise in integrating design, fabrication and installation, and our capabilities across low carbon solutions.

“We are well positioned to offer WSF a self-perform EPC model via our strategic relationship with Bilfinger UK, which is expected to further reduce risk and drive cost optimisations.”

Willis Lease Finance, WSF’s parent company, offers leasing for aircraft engines and auxiliary power units through its diverse portfolio of aviation services.

The company’s comprehensive services, facilitated through various subsidiaries, encompass engine maintenance, aircraft handling, and end-of-life solutions for aviation materials.
