US carrier American Airlines has revealed plans to reduce flights to London from next month as demand drops due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The decision is said to follow as the number of new cases of Covid-19 has risen in the two countries, leading to the establishment of new restrictions to contain it.

CNBC reported that the carrier will cease a total of 16 weekly flights from US airports John F Kennedy International Airport and Chicago O’Hare to London Heathrow.
American Airlines spokeswoman was quoted by CNBC as saying: “We’re constantly evaluating our network to match supply and demand and have been making regular schedule adjustments since March.
“In an effort to match low demand resulting from the coronavirus (Covid-19), we continue to operate a reduced schedule.”
American Airlines noted that customers in these cities can book on its transatlantic partner British Airways.

By GlobalDataMeanwhile, the carrier’s cargo-only flights from the cities will remain unaffected ‘until daily passenger service resumes in January’, according to the spokeswoman.
Besides American Airlines, major US carrier United reportedly decided to cancel flights to Munich from San Francisco and Newark, as well as those from Chicago to Amsterdam from next month.
In addition, United currently has no plans to change its London Heathrow service.
Earlier last month, American and United decided to move forward with furloughs involving more than 32,000 employees.
