The Airports Council International (ACI) Europe has reported that the passenger traffic across the European airport network has increased 4.8% year-over-year during, when compared with the same month in 2013.

According to the report, the passenger traffic at EU airports rose 4.4%, while passenger traffic at non-EU airports increased 6.4%.

Aircraft movements across Europe increased 3.2%, while freight traffic saw a rise of 6.3%.

Airports are classified according to the number of passengers they welcome each year; Group 1 signifies more than 25 million passengers, Group 2 between ten and 25 million, Group 3 between five and ten million and Group 4 indicates fewer than five million annual passengers.

Group 1 airports that reported the highest increase in passengers include Antalya, Istanbul IST, Moscow DME, London LGW and Moscow SVO.

Milan MXP, Istanbul SAW, Athens ATH, Brussels and Lisbon are among the airports in Group 2 with the highest increase in traffic.

Group 3 airports that witnessed the highest increases in traffic include Ibiza, Porto, Lanzarote, Naples and Tenerife TFS.

Bucharest BBU, Chambery, Santorini, Belgrade and Skopje are among the airports in Group 4 that saw an increase in passenger traffic.

ACI revealed that the Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4 airports reported average adjustments of 4.2%, 8.3%, -0.4% and 5.8% respectively, when compared with May 2013.
