Heathrow Airport in London, UK, has recorded a 0.5% increase in overall passenger traffic in comparison with July 2013, reaching approximately seven million passengers.

The number of passengers in July is the maximum number of passengers that the airport has ever received. The busiest day of the month for the airport was 27 July, when a total of 239,928 passengers passed through the airport’s terminals.

While load factors decreased to 82.3%, the number of seats for each aircraft saw an increase of 0.7%, taking it to 204.9. The number of passengers for each aircraft rose by 0.1% to reach 168.7.

There was an overall increase of 7.8% in cargo with increases in Mexico, Russia and China to 36%, 34.6% and 11.5%, respectively.

The airport has predicted that China’s performance is likely to further improve in the coming months, with Air China set to double its services to Beijing from October. There will also be 51 departures each week from Heathrow to China.

Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye said: "The doubling of Air China’s routes to Beijing represents a vote of confidence for T2. It is also recognition that despite other UK airports having spare capacity, only Heathrow Airport can deliver daily, direct flights to emerging economies that will help UK to win in the global race for growth."
