The $50m New Bohol (Panglao) Airport project and the $350m Laguindingan Airport project in Cagayan de Oro City have already received approval from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board.

"We have operations already in Cebu and most of the airports are based in the Visayas."

As cited in BusinessWorld, PPP Center executive director Cosette V Canilao said in an email statement that the remaining four projects, namely Iloilo, Davao, Bacolod and Puerto Princesa, were yet to receive the NEDA approval.

The project costs are yet to be finalised.

Recently, the 25-year PPP contract for the operation and maintenance of the Mactan Cebu International Airport was awarded to GMR-Megawide for an estimated cost of $390m.

GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp (GMCAC) president Manuel Louie B Ferrer was quoted by BusinessWorld as saying: "We have operations already in Cebu and most of the airports are based in the Visayas. So it makes sense that we should participate in the bidding."

GMR-Megawide plans to start work on the rehabilitation of the Mactan Cebu Airport terminal on 1 November. A second terminal will also be constructed; work for this will start in January.

The existing terminal was designed to handle approximately 4.5 million passengers, but it currently handles roughly 7.1 million. The expansion of the terminal is expected to raise the annual passenger capacity of the airport to 12.5 million.
