Poland’s Chopin Airport saw an 8.5% increase in its passenger traffic with 917,000 passengers travelling through the airport in October.

This is the highest ever traffic recorded by the airport for the month.

The airport crossed the one-million mark between June and September.

The airport stated that while traditional airlines carried 772,000 passengers, low-cost carriers carried approximately 145,000 passengers.

Out of the 917,000 passengers, a total fo 106,000 travelled on domestic flights to/from Warsaw, which was a decrease of 3%, and almost 811,000 travelled on international flights, representing an increase of 10.2%.

The airport was served by the low-cost airline Ryanair until the end of 2013, which was responsible for a significant amount of its traffic. While Ryanair no longer flies from the airport, a comparison between last year and this year’s passenger traffic at the airport between the months of January and September shows that the numbers are rising.

Chopin Airport has handled 9.1 million passengers since the beginning of the year, which includes nearly 8.1 million on international flights, a decrease of 3.4% and more than one million passengers on domestic flights, an increase of 8.3%.

The airport handled a total number of 12,500 aircrafts in the month of October, a rise of 3%.

Located in Warsaw, Chopin Airport is considered to be Poland’s busiest airport and handles less than 40% of the country’s total air passenger traffic.
