German start-up Volocopter is set to conduct a series of test flights of its electrical vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxis in Singapore.
The test flights will be supported by Singapore’s Ministry of Transport (MOT), the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), and the Economic Development Board (EDB).

They will be conducted to verify the ability of the air taxis to operate in Singapore’s urban environment and are expected to include public demo flights.
Volocopter will work with CAAS to set up the tests and ensure that the necessary requirements are met prior to the trials in the second half of next year.
CAAS aviation industry director Ho Yuen Sang said: “There is potential for air taxis, or eVTOLs, to transform mobility and logistics in urban cities.

Volocopter’s eVTOL air taxis are powered by electricity and are similar to a helicopter in appearance.
The emission-free vehicles are capable of conducting vertical take-off and landing.
Developed using drone technology, the eVTOL air taxis can accommodate two people and cover a distance of 30km in one flight.
Specifically designed for inner city flights, the air taxis are equipped with technologies that make flying more stable by avoiding micro turbulence around skyscrapers.
Volocopter CEO Florian Reuter said: “We are getting ready to start implementing the first fixed routes in cities.

Volocopter intends to establish a product design and engineering team in Singapore to support its expansion plans.
