Rolls-Royce has developed an engine family called Pearl to exclusively power Bombardier’s new business jets, Global 5500 and Global 6500.
The Pearl 15 is the first of the planned Pearl engine family and marks the sixth new civil aerospace engine introduced by Rolls-Royce in the past ten years.

Pearl combines technologies from Rolls-Royce’s Advance2 technology demonstrator programmes with solutions from the Rolls-Royce BR700 engine family that serves the business aviation sector.
Capable of delivering up to 15,125lb of thrust, the Pearl 15 is designed to allow travellers to travel farther, faster, quicker and quieter.
The engine can offer up to 9% more thrust during take-off than the BR700 engine as well as two decibels quieter and consume 7% less fuel.
Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace president Chris Cholerton said: “The combination of outstanding performance, economy, and reliability levels make it the perfect fit for Bombardier’s newest Global aircraft and, with the Pearl engine, we are extending our successful relationship with Bombardier, which started more than 20 years ago.”

By GlobalDataPearl 15 was developed at Rolls-Royce’s Centre of Excellence for Business Aviation in Dahlewitz, Germany. It received European Aviation Safety Agency certification in February this year.
The engine is currently being trialled in a series of flight tests at Bombardier’s Flight Test Center in Wichita, Kansas, US,to support its planned entry into service at the end of next year.
The Pearl family will be supported by the Rolls-Royce CorporateCare service, an aftermarket programme in business aviation that offers full transfer of off-wing maintenance risk at a fixed price.
So far, Rolls-Royce has delivered nearly 1,700 engines to Bombardier.
