Perth Airport in Australia has selected Spanish IT solution provider Amadeus and ICM Airport Technics to upgrade its passenger handling systems.

The companies will upgrade the airport’s Cloud-based passenger handling system, which has been in operation since 2015.

Following the platform upgrade, Perth Airport will be able to cater towards passenger demands. The flexibility of the platform was an important factor in choosing Amadeus, the company noted.

In March, Amadeus acquired Australia-based ICM Airport Technics for an undisclosed amount.

ICM Airport Technics’ Hybrid Auto Bag Drop units, check-in kiosks and common-use self-service platform will aid the airport’s self-check-in and baggage drop processes. The technology can be modified to suit conventional check-in needs.

Amadeus’ Passenger Verification Platform verifies passengers’ boarding passes and allows them to board the flight.

Automation is a key strategy used by Perth Airport to improve passenger experience.

Perth Airport CEO Kevin Brown said: “The passenger experience is paramount and with new automated technologies we can serve more passengers to a higher standard, supporting the growth of our airport.

“The expansion of Cloud-enabled technology at Perth Airport will significantly improve the passenger handling process. Our airline partners can also expect continuous improvements from the integrated technology.”

In May, Amadeus, Adria Airways and LOT Polish Airlines tested biometric boarding procedures at Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport in Slovenia.

Last December, Perth Airport started testing sleeping pods for its international passengers at its T1 precinct. It is the first Australian airport to offer these services to travellers.

The airport has installed eight sleeping pods in collaboration with Smarte Carte and GoSleep.
