Nieuport Aviation Infrastructure Partners has concluded the modernisation of gates at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport in Canada.

The airport’s passenger terminal building now features a total of 11 gates. Seven of these were rebuilt, while one gate has been newly constructed.

Nieuport Aviation owns and operates the new passenger terminal building. It said that the project is part of the terminal upgrade initiatives, aimed at enhancing passengers’ experience at the airport.

Nieuport Aviation infrastructure partners CEO Neil Pakey said: “Nieuport Aviation has been up to the task of investing in infrastructure projects to keep pace with customer demands, at no cost to the customer.

“In addition to the gates, we completed an upgrade to the lounges adding more space, comfort and modern design features such as new seating options, more electronic charging stations, refreshed business areas, as well as six new restaurants and retail stores offering great selection to passengers.”

The new gates have been equipped with handrails for greater accessibility, additional space for passenger queues, along with roll-up doors to preserve energy within the gates.

PortsToronto CEO Geoffrey Wilson said: “All of the upgrades to the lounges have been intended, designed and implemented with the passenger experience as top priority.”

Formerly known as the Toronto Port Authority, PortsToronto is responsible for the management of the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

During installation of the new gates, PCL Construction delivered 24 temporary gate modules. These were installed in three phases to help improve time efficiencies and avoid any inconvenience to customers, airport ground crews and plane traffic.
