Tier 1 PV module manufacturer Vikram Solar has deployed rooftop solar power plants at two more international airports in India.
The project was carried out at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, West Bengal; and Calicut International Airport, Kerala.

The deployment follows the successful installation of the first rooftop solar plant at Cochin International Airport in Kerala, India.
The project of deploying a grid connected solar rooftop plant under Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) was implemented for Airport Authority of India within the MNRE scheme.
Built under a two-year contract, Vikram Solar was responsible for the design, engineering, procurement, supply, construction, installation and commissioning for the three projects.

By GlobalDataThe solar plants have been constructed using 260 Wp polycrystalline PV modules from Vikram Solar’s high-efficiency ELDORA Prime Silver series. The capacities of the solar plants at Kolkata airport and Calicut airport are 2MWp and 750kWp, respectively.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata airport director AK Sharma said: "The 2 MWp grid connected rooftop solar plant is set to create benchmark by generating 2800 Mwh of solar energy in its first year of operation.
"It is expected to garner monetary benefit of approx. Rs21.5m per annum through net metering with CESC besides earning carbon credit for green energy generation."
The power project at Netaji Airport comprises deployment of the power plants at three different spots, 180 kWp on the Operations Building, 572 kWp on the Cargo and APEDA building, and 1,248 kWp on the domestic building.
The Kolkata airport has 7848 modules spread over three building rooftops and thirty-three 50kW string inverters along with one 30kW string inverter used for the installation. The plant is expected to cut down approximately 2,037 million tons of CO2 emissions each year.
The plant at Calicut Airport, which comprises a total of 2,886 modules spread over an area of around 7,120m2, is believed to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 823 million tons each year.
