In cooperation with Dura Vermeer and the Technical University Delft, Deerns has developed the design of three extraordinary sustainable office villas in the city of Almere. After a first Breeam-NL evaluation by the Dutch Green Building Council, the project is expected to be labelled “excellent”.

The villas, which consist of primarily wooden constructions, can also be labelled remarkably sustainable. The energy use after construction will be 30% lower than was desired by the Dutch Building Guidelines 2009. The measures that have been taken to realise such energy savings vary from grey water systems to the optimal use of daylight.

Another significant aspect is the applied climate concept. The buildings will be constructed of wood and by applying so-called phase changing materials in the facade, it is possible to realise a climate adaptive skin (CAS). This combination makes climatisation of the building possible in a passive way.
