Russian national carrier Aeroflot, which is also the country’s largest airline, restarted its flight operations between Russia and India on 6 May after a two-month gap, according to Press Trust of India (PTI).

Aeroflot will operate flights between the two countries every Monday and Friday.

The Russian flag carrier said in a statement: “Starting 6th May 2022, Aeroflot will fly its own Airbus 333 aircraft every Monday and Friday from Delhi (DEL) to Moscow (SVO) with a total seating of 293 passengers in a three-class configuration: business, premium economy and economy.”  

In light of the conflict in Ukraine, the airline temporarily suspended all its international flights on 8 March.

Additionally, Aeroflot said that its subsidiaries, including Rossiya Airlines and Aurora Airlines, would also stop their international services.

Other Russian airlines, including S7, halted their international flight operations as well.

Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, many countries across the globe, including the US, Canada and many in Europe, closed their airspace for all Russian aircraft and airlines.

In the wake of the conflict, American airline company Delta also cancelled its codeshare services with Aeroflot.

However, last month the Russian Government decided to resume flights to 52 ‘friendly countries’ after it planned to ease Covid-19 curbs. The country will operate flights to and from these nations, which have not imposed sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. These nations include Argentina and South Africa.
