Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Pakistan is enhancing its security measures, following a series of suicide and gun attacks across the country.

The airport has tightened surveillance inside its premises by checking people at the entrance gates.

The Daily Times reported that the airport is also planning to undertake security checks for staff before they enter the premises.

The police have been surveying people living around the airport. There are also plans of deploying intelligence officials and airport security force (ASF) personnel at the airport to ensure better coordination and sharing of information.

The airport police have made several arrests in the past few months and prevented multiple drug and arms trafficking attempts.

Earlier this month, the anti-narcotics force foiled a bid of heroin smuggling and held a foreigner at the airport, when the person was trying to smuggle heroin-filled capsules to North Africa via Doha and Turkey.
