The main objective of the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) SOC Ltd Albert Taylor Award is to enhance safer skies and development of Air Traffic Services (ATS) on the African Continent by providing and presenting an on-the-job training instructor (OJTI) course in qualifying countries.

Algeria is this year’s Albert Taylor Award recipient.

The two-week course was attended by a number of delegates consisting of qualified Air Traffic Controllers, which all have more than ten years operational experience in their respective operational environments.

The first week of training consisted of theoretical elements, including but not limited to the following modules, Techniques of One-to-One ATS Training, Briefing Techniques, Learning Process, Teaching Techniques and Human Behaviour.

The second week covered the practical application of learned knowledge in a simulated Air Traffic Control environment. Trainees underwent an intense process of balancing and applying the safe and efficient management of air traffic. ATNS tutors ensured that they provide an engaging and learning environment for their trainees.

The entire course consisted of five practical assessment exercises and a theory-related written assessment. All delegates successfully completed the course by meeting all the required objectives. Five of the six delegates achieved distinction i.e. with an average of above 80%.

The ATNS Albert Taylor Award has strengthened the relationship between ATNS and Civil Aviation Authority of Algeria (Establissement Nationa de la Navigation Arienne – ENNA), especially relating to aviation-related training.

Positive feedback provided by the delegates has reinforced a quest to push aviation safety in the African continent, to another level.
