Loft Dynamics announced its expansion into Canada, entering a partnership with Blackcomb Helicopters LP and providing the Loft Dynamics’ VR Airbus H125 training device.

Having achieved an FTD level 3 qualification from EASA, this training system is noted by Loft Dynamics as the world’s first VR flight simulation training device.

Blackcomb Helicopters is set to operate the H125 training device at its Boundary Bay Airport location in Metro Vancouver.

Canadian-based helicopter tour company Blackcomb aim to increase its flight training capabilities through the device and remove safety risks and carbon emissions of in-flight training.

Loft Dynamics founder and CEO Fabi Riesen said: “We look forward to bringing these benefits to Blackcomb and working together to showcase a more sustainable, safe and scalable future for aviation in Canada and beyond.”

The simulator, which was created in partnership with Airbus Helicopters’ top engineers and test pilots, is an identical copy of the Airbus H125 helicopter, which is the most popular aircraft for both Airbus Helicopters and Blackcomb Helicopters.

The simulator features a 3D high-resolution panoramic view, a dynamic six-degree motion platform and a full replica cockpit.

Through gaining the FTD level 3 qualification, the system enables pilots to conduct proficiency checks, H125 flight training on a regular basis and operational check rides from the device, according to Loft Dynamics.

Blackcomb’s Director of Operations Chris Haslock emphasised how this system allows pilots to prepare for danger and equips them with “game-changing” training: “Our pilots regularly navigate challenging coastal and mountainous conditions but adequately training for these scenarios is inherently dangerous.

“With Loft Dynamics simulators, we’re able to customise weather conditions, visual cues and landscapes based on what is typically encountered, so it’s the exact in-flight experience without compromising safety and with zero carbon emissions. It’s a complete game-changer.”
