This can include discovering or creating a unique material, transferring a research or technology development to practice, improving the performance of an existing product or creating a new simulation or design tools.
The category also includes companies that have made significant investments into their R&D processes.

Undoubtedly, the major factor affecting research and development in the airport technology industry has been covid. The pandemic has caused a general slowdown in the industry in general and R&D has been no different.
However, not all research has been put on hold. Social distancing measures have resulted in the increased development of passenger flow, queuing solutions. A similar trend can be seen with digital baggage-handling and screening products.
Additionally, efforts to develop the various different types of IoT and IoT-related technologies have more or less been constant, with the focus during this research period being on the application of AI and 5G in particular.
