Vienna International Airport in Austria has opened its newly modernised terminal, Check-in 1, aimed at enhancing travel comfort for NIKI and airberlin passengers.
The terminal revamp project involved the addition of new check-in and ticket counters, the deployment of a modern lighting concept and the remodelling of the ceiling and walls.
After the addition of new check-in counters, the new terminal currently has 30 check-in counters, eight self-check-in terminals, two baggage counters, two customs counters and porter service, in addition to a new priority zone developed for top bonus frequent flyers.
As part of the project, new security controls including fast lanes and a separate parking area have also been added while Car Park 3’s walkway will directly lead to the terminal.
Airlines that previously used Check-in 2 will now be relocated to Check-in 1A.
Check-in 2 will be shut down to dismantle the underlying baggage sorting equipment to create a shorter route for passengers from the B and C-Gates to the central arrivals hall, with expected completion in spring 2013.
The airport is currently working on the concept for the redesign of Check-in 2, with a decision expected during the first half of 2013 (H1 2013).
Other airlines that are also expected to use Check-in 1 in the future include Aegean Airlines, Air France, Finnair, Alitalia, British Airways, China Airlines, Aer Lingus, Iberia, Jat Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Tarom, Aeroflot, Turkish Airlines and Transaero Airlines.
