UNICOM Government and Nice Systems have partnered to provide Miami International Airport (MIA) in the US with a runway incursion detection service that will secure the airport’s Airfield Operations Area (AOA).
Under the new partnership, UNICOM Government is installing the NICE Situator system to enhance safety and security, while enabling MIA to improve its real-time detection and response to runway incursions.
The system will enable the airport’s security staff to detect any unidentified objects on a taxiway or runway, allowing a quick response to reduce the risk of a security breach or accident.
It is used to integrate video cameras from MIA’s NiceVision video management system, as well as other data sources such as radar, real-time GPS tracking, and an airport first responder communication system.
UNICOM Government president and CEO Corry Hong said that the implementation is a good example of the company’s ability to bring the best technology together with its expertise and integration services to provide a best-of-breed solution for MIA.
"NICE’s Situator solution is a proven solution at several major airports, and underscores UNICOM Government’s focus on providing the best solutions for MIA and all of our customers," Hong said.
NICE Situator analyses and correlates data from several systems to create a system with multiple layers of verification, resulting in further accurate runway incursion detection with fewer false alarms.
The latest project is an extension of a UNICOM-led security infrastructure improvement at the airport, which began in 2012 and involved NiceVision Net 2.5 and other security upgrades.
MIA is the largest US gateway for Latin America and the Caribbean, and is one of the major international passenger and freight airports worldwide.
