Air traffic management (ATM) solutions provider Thales has delivered a new TopSky-ATC ATM solution to the Bahrain Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA), following an 18-month development period.

TopSky-ATC includes an automation system, which is made up of dual area control centres (ACC ) and dual approach (APP) controller positions, as well as a complete ATM system installed within the two control towers at Bahrain International Airport (BAH).

BCCA said that Thales TopSky-ATC solution has been selected following a competitive tender process to improve Bahrain International Airport’s operational capabilities.

The new ATM system will help the airport in performing faster traffic handling operations, covering both the approach and en-route segments for the total Bahrain flight information region (FIR).

Thales has also delivered its TopSky-ATC simulator with exercise editor (EED) to train the BCAA staff, as well as an information display system that provides access to various support functions, including meteorological info, aeronautical information publications (AIPs) and web portals, all of which are accessible on ATC screens.

TopSky-ATC will be equipped with a situation display, new generation conventional radars, ADS-B and wide area multilateration to offer 4D trajectories of aircrafts, including all flight evolutions and controller clearances.

TopSky ATC features HMI and controller tools, meets all the requirements of Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) and NextGen platforms, Thales said.

According to the company, the system is also compatible with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) aviation system block upgrades.

BCAA offers air navigation services to the airspace users of the Bahrain FIR and Bahrain International Airport.
