Abu Dhabi Airports (ADAC) has awarded contract to Taylor Woodrow International Construction to carry out expansion works at Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Terminal 3.
Under the £14.8m contract, awarded as part of the capacity Enhancement programme, Taylor Woodrow will collaborate with Abu Dhabi contractor Fibrex Construction Group and commence work on the project in March 2013.
The terminal 3 modernisation project includes the addition of two new passenger buildings and a link bridge.
ADAC chairman Ali Majed Al Mansouri said that in 2012 the airport reported an 18.9% rise in passenger traffic compared with 2011 and, with strong growth predicted, traffic in 2013 is expected to follow.
"The new works at Terminal 3 will extend the handling capacity of its facility, accommodating the movement growth of Etihad Airways and other carriers operating from this terminal," Mansouri said.
"ADAC will continue with its capacity enhancement programme to ensure the best solutions are made available, enabling an efficient operation at Abu Dhabi International Airport until the MTB is delivered in 2017."
Spanning an area of 6,015m², the bus gates building will incorporate a lounge area with a capacity of 2,000 passengers, while serving as the transfer facility between Terminal 3 and remote aircraft parking positions.
The first floor of the facility will house a 3,200m² Etihad Business Lounge, while a steel-framed passenger link-bridge will be built to connect the building with Terminal 3’s departures level.
The second passenger facility will be equipped with the transfer passenger screening facilities, while the steel-framed structure will add 2,700m² to the current terminal with similar architecture.
