Tanzania Airports Authority is to expand three medium-sized airports – Kigoma at Lake Tanganyika, Tabora in western Tanzania and Bukoba on the western shores of Lake Victoria – at an estimated cost of TZS114.9bn ($71.9m).
Under the expansion plan, the three dilapidated airports will get new airport terminal houses, paved runways and a drainage system.
Construction General Gilard, in collaboration with Mwananchi Engineering and Constructing Company, will carry out the Bukoba airport expansion project, which will be completed within 18 months.
Sinohydro of China will carry out the work at the other two airports, with construction work to be completed within 18 months.
SSI Engineers and Environmental Consultants, in collaboration with the Howard Humphreys of Tanzania, will supervise the three airports, according to busiweek.com.
