Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) in Canada has begun implementing the SITA Airport Management Solution to improve passenger service.

SITA’s AirportVision solution will allow the airport to offer passengers a sophisticated and integrated flight information display and visual paging as well as an AirportCentral database to provide precise billing and financial controls.

The airport is also implementing SITA AirportResource Manager, which will offer enhanced scheduling, capacity planning and resource management system for mobile and fixed airport resources which include departure gates, aircraft parking stands, baggage carousels, and check-in desks.

SITA Airport Solutions vice president, Matthys Serfontein, said: "Huge amounts of real-time data are presented clearly but most importantly actions are proposed to ensure that airports, like Québec, can improve their service and run at optimum levels."

The new solution is expected to enable mutual decision making and facilitate the airport, airlines, ground handlers and air traffic control to use the same data, in real-time, and enable them to make fully-informed decisions, further enhancing the airport’s optimal management.

SITA’s new Airport Management Solution deploys ‘action boards’, which presents data and facilitates the airport to take actions urgently by automatically updating all associated data and activities and flagging expected issues.

According to SITA, the ‘action boards’ at the airport are evading mismanagement of gates, desks, lounges and other resources due to flight delays or other interruptions by facilitating the duty managers to take proactive steps prior to the occurrence of the issue.

The ‘action boards’ are claimed to allow quick and effective decisions to be taken and provide the results of alternative decisions and mull over the domino effect of decisions on the airport’s service levels.

SITA said that the colour coding and alerts are set depending on the airport’s business policies and key performance indicators with the system to inform the user about the issue and also providing instantaneous options to be implemented.

The airport is currently implementing SITA Airport Management Solution, which is expected to be completed by September this year.
